Trip Report Mishap and Adventure studying English in Malta

Jump to last reply

Hi All,
I just came back from a 4 week "English for Work" course in Malta. Had some minor issues on the way and thought I'd share them with you as it helps to know your rights and what you can demand as well as to praise some good service.

I booked the course 2 months in advance and had decided to stay at a host family. I'm not going to name them as they werent bad people they were just going through a bad patch ....

Lets say that the flight there was uneventful (exactly how I like it). The school was excellent as were the teachers and the activities. The only thing I wasnt sure about immediately was the host family.

On day 3 at breakfast with the host family, the shouting started in the morning and didn't or hadn't stopped by the time I came home.
The next morning was the same. I was supposed to be on holiday, I had had enough. This is were the good service that makes a difference came in.

I spoke to the agent I booked the course through. I cannot recommend them enough. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable from the start! Additionally their service is free (they make their money off the school... I checked :) If you ever need to learn English abroad you'll find them here http://full-immersion.com/en/ anyways...... Within 10 minutes on the call with the agent he promised me he'd deal with the issue and solve it by mornings end.

20 minutes later I got a call back from him with instructions to go home normally after school and to pack my bags, leave them there and attend that evenings event on a complimentary basis, at the end of the event I would be taken to my new host family.

The school and agent went out of their way to send their own staff to pick up my belongings, thereby avoiding any embarrasment from my end with the host family. I appreciated that. At the end of the event there was a taxi waiting for me with my belongings in the back. He took me straight to my new host family and they were awesome from the start to the end.

To me it was a great holiday and learning experience . it goes to show that problems are normal, its how you deal with them that counts!

Malta for those of you who have never been there is an incredible location whether to learn english or not! It should be on everyones bucket list https://www.google.com.mt/search?q=beautiful+malta&newwindow=1&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=942&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwimjonJz_XPAhUJVRoKHQDjBDMQ_AUIBigB
